Songwriter/producer Butch Walker recently released a fantastic new solo record, Stay Gold. On Friday, November 25, he will release a special LP of demos and 4-track recordings from the sessions for that album as part of Record Store Day’s Black Friday event.
An annual happening at music shops around the country, RSD Black Friday is technically different from the annual Record Store Day event that takes place in mid-April, though both are geared around limited edition vinyl releases, reissues and other noteworthy titles from acts spanning genres and styles.
As for Walker’s, his is called Cassette Backs and will feature eight songs, some of them early versions of recordings that made the final album and some of them unreleased material:
Cassette Backs compiles stripped-down early versions of standout songs from Stay Gold, including a stunningly sparse version of the album’s title track, alongside previously unreleased songs about hoodlum friends, exasperating kids, old times and lost loves with hints of doo wop, folk, pop, rock and everything in between. Cassette Backs is an unvarnished look at a prolific artist in full control, liberated from pretense and dedicated to the noble pursuit of Rock and Roll.
And the track listing:
1) It’s Gotta Get Easier
3) Wilder In The Heart
4) Bad Friends
5) Stay Gold
6) Smoke and Mirrors
7) Did We Ever Really Fall In Love?
8) Roll Me Out
